MIKE SCHALLER ... VOCALIST & GUITAR Mike Schaller got his first guitar as a Christmas gift, circa 1970, a ¾ size classical guitar that his folks purchased at Fred Meyer for about $10. A few years later, he’d saved enough money to buy his first decent guitar, a Stratocaster with a whammy bar. He still owns that strat. The $10 Rodeo classical guitar met its demise in the mid 1970’s, ala Pete Townsend. May it rest in pieces. Mike joined his first garage band, Mother Fox, while a middle-schooler in Portland, OR, playing his first ever gig at the middle school spring dance. He was terrified. And probably sucked. While Mike elected a career in business as a more reliable way to support his family, he remained active in music as a serious and devoted avocation, studying, performing, writing and teaching. Mike has been active in music ministry at his church since shortly after relocating to Idaho in 1997, and away from church, he performs locally as a solo act, and with several bands. Mike was invited to audition with Whiskey Tango a couple years ago, and has particularly enjoyed their collaboration with Rebecca Pearce that began summer of 2022. JON McCORMICK... BASS Jon McCormick started his bass playing career while in high school in the late 1960's. He found employment and experience playing in the private club scene in Salt Lake City on weekends. Music education followed at Weber State and Westminster college, all the while gigging full time. Jon left music for over a decade to pursue a career in business. Realizing twenty years ago what he was missing led him back to the craft. Since that time Jon has studied with numerous teachers and performed with local jazz fusion bands in the Boise area. Jon's contribution to Whiskey Tango is his opportunity to use his experience to bring their audience music they love. BRIAN GLARBORG ... DRUMS Brian Glarborg studied music at Idaho State University, receiving a Bachelor of Music degree in 1986. After graduating, he joined the United States Army and was a percussionist in the 6th U.S. Army Band at Presidio of San Francisco, and in the 2nd Infantry Division band in South Korea. Brian has lived in Boise for 31 years and has played in various ensembles along the way. Brian appreciates a wide variety of musical genres, including rock, blues, jazz, and classical.
KYLE JOHNSON... KEYBOARDIST Kyle studied classical piano from a variety of teachers starting at the age of 5, even studied abroad in Switzerland during grade school from a Belgian private tutor. He played in jazz band and marching band for Centennial HS, tutored under Camden Hughes at Northwest Nazarene University in 2018, and played a variety of local gigs in Jazz combo in the Nampa area. In addition to Whiskey Tango, Kyle performs independently as a cocktail jazz pianists for private parties. In his spare time he enjoys backpacking the Idaho wilderness areas in the warmer months, attempting to fly fish, and cruising the greenbelt.
